Malaysia Ho!

Well, I made it Kuala Lumpur to wait out 2 weeks until I can return to Bangkok. This will allow me 2 months in Bangkok and 5 months in Kathmandu until the end of the year, the max I am allowed.

One of the few programs I get on my one English channel is the Amazing Race. They fly to a new destination for most episodes and then complete some challenges. They gloss over the airport. However, I bet some episodes, those are the hardest parts.

Whew! What a workout. I flew out of the minor International Airport in Bangkok called Don Mueang International Airport. I arrived 3 hours early and that may have been very late. I was in a line that looked about 1.5 hours long and it looked like it would be tight. However, as I was standing there an official came over, called me out of line, and took me over to an empty counter and I was processed in 10 minutes. Sometimes God takes care of me way to well that it is embarrassing. Well, they say God takes care of drunks and fools. And, since I don't drink . . .

Anyway, I ended up waiting in the lounge for an hour until they called us. We lined up and got on our . . . bus? Like I said, this was an old airport and they bused us out to our plane. I flew Air Asia. It is owned by the Donald Trump of Asia (He even has a programmed called The Apprentice, Asia.) He made his billions in shipping and his freighters ship a large portion of the cargo from Asia.

He built Air Asia as the "people's airline." It is very cheap so that even a taxi driver in Bangkok can afford a trip once in a while. It was about $100.00 round trip. However, you get only a seat, a carryon up to 15 pounds, a camera bag, and can use the toilet. Everything else is extra. If you want to check luggage, it is extra. Meals are extra. Drinks and water are extra. I just brought the minimum - clothes, my medicines, my Bible, and my computer.

The planes are older and smaller. However, the aisle was wider and the seat was wider. I guess they are making seats skinnier nowadays.

However, they do cram in more rows so our knees touch the seat in front of us. But, overall, I was comfortable for the 2 hour trip.

I made it fine to my hotel. It is an hour taxi ride. I made a map and we found the hotel right away. I ended up on the "1st floor." In European parlance, that is the second floor, which was actually 2 flights up. However, this morning they switched me to a ground floor room. Again, God is giving me a little boost.

On the one hand, my small room is ultra modern. However, it has no frig or microwave or even drawers or a closet. So, I will be eating out most of the time and my clothes will have to stay in my suitcase. However, that looks doable. There are a zillion stores nearby. The hotel is actually like in a giant strip mall, one of 4 side by side.

The bathroom has one of those instant water heater things. I really like them. You can set the water at any temp. I can't seem to get a good picture of the bathroom. But, it is also ultra modern.

They have different plugs here. My Thailand hotel and apartment had universal plug outlets so I have not had any problems plugging stuff in. The hotel here had no adapters. I walked one way and found a telephone store. I was able to get a plug in that would allow me to charge 3 USB items at once. So, at least, I could use my phones and tablet. Then, I walked the other way and found a computer store. They had a universal adapter. Whoo-hoo! You can see it in the room picture where my computer cable goes between my bed and desk.

So, now I am fully electrified.

I will go exploring and post more pictures. Lee pointed out Imgur to host pictures so I can post a lot of pictures without worrying about using up space. So, I want to get familiar with that while I am here.

Hair Today, Gone . . . Today

Oh, no! A runaway skytrain is headed for the BTS station and will arrive in 11 minutes. People are fleeing the boarding area in panic.

Meanwhile, down in the turnstile level, mild mannered Mike silently slips into a 10 minute haircut booth. With only 1 minute left before disaster occurs, out steps . . .

BALD MAN to save the day!

Most booths here are open air, although a couple of financial booths like bank or money changing are also indoor and air conditioned booths. The barber thought my haircut was so unusual that she took selfies of us to prove that a crazy American really did get buzzed there. The haircut is 120 Baht ($3.60) and the air conditioning is a nice break when walking around.

Going Postal

I have been looking around for postcards and some cards. Postcards cost 15 baht and cards w/envelopes cost 30 baht (15 baht = $0.44). I mailed some today. Postcards cost 15 baht to mail and the letter cost 28 baht.

(Left side)

There is a post office for the district between the BTS station and my Co-Working place. It is a modern government office. Like most government offices, they use the "take-a-number" system. But, I only had to wait about 7 minutes for 10 customers ahead of me. Meanwhile, I got to sit in a chair and enjoy the air conditioning. They have all kind of supplies if you need them. They also have a post office box area. If I were going to move here, I would probably get one.

(Right side)

There is the number dispenser and a picture of the King. Thais are among the nicest people on the planet. But, all visitors should be respectful of the King. I saw no English signs in there at all. So, I just handed the teller my stuff and she took care of it all. Your postcards may not have stamps, just something stamped on there with a rubber stamp.

TV, etc.

We only get (got) one English channel: AXN. It was an action program channel. But, it stopped about 2 weeks ago. Now we have none. They just started charging for internet at my place. So, now I don't have that either. This is actually good for both of those. It was just too easy to hang out in my room.

Now, I just have e-books and android games on my tablet. However, it would be nice to have something while I eat breakfast and supper. So, I have been investigating audio dramas I can download. I found a great source of sites that have programs I can download and listen at home:

http://theaudiodramadirectory.com/

Right now, I am listening to the Harry Strange series:

There are 3 seasons available. He is a Private Investigator that is a cross between Kolchak: The Nightstalker and Men In Black. Lots of fun.

Wargamers

And The Winner of the Entry Door Tumbling Is . . .

Took the last few days off. I was having a great week last week. A dude came through Bangkok and we got together for some gaming on Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday saw me do a ton of work on my book at E88, the Co-Working place. Thursday I wewnt to Terminal 21 for shopping and a movie. I was almost out of a couple of prescriptions and I wanted to go to a pharmacy near Terminal 21 that was supposed to have everything (which is OTC here.) I felt so great I walked to the pharmacy and back even though it was 100 degrees.

Unfortunately, when I got back to Terminal 21 I tripped on a mat before the entrance and did a 5-point landing. Major bummer. I had rug burns and scrapes on my knees, palms, and forehead. However, with 5 points of landing taking my weight, I didn’t get too hurt. I was bleeding from my forehead and knees and they wanted to take me to the infirmary at Terminal 21, but I declined and took a Taxi straight home. Thais are super nice people. Everything seems to be fine, except some major damage to my left shoulder. It is healing slowly and should be fine in a month. One nerve/muscle got torn pretty good. I couldn’t put my left arm on my hip and can barely do so now. However, I was able to sleep on my left side for the first time in a week last night.

Fortunately, I had already got my prescriptions so I didn’t run out of pills. I stayed in my room from Thursday noon to today noon (Wednesday). I just read and studied my Bible a lot. I read a good post-apocalyptic trilogy that I got on Smashwords. The first book is called A Glimmer Of Hope. It was a good read, good quality writing. It was extra interesting, though. In the first book, one of the characters presented the Gospel in a very clear way, yet it was woven well into the story. In the second book, Mother Teresa’s “Do It Anyway,” sayings were presented, again well woven into the story. In the third book, the Gospel of the first book was reinforced. Very, very clever way to reach the mass market.  (Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. (Matthew 10:16)
