  1. Olivia would love this. It's odd. They say elephants do not have the spines to ride and are afraid of the hooks and probes they were trained under. However, in the elephant world videos, I saw both in them? I wonder if they are a true sanctuary or more of a tourist thing. Or, if they are done in such a way that it does not scare or hurt the elephants? She would have to research that more.

  2. See the other post about elephant spines. As far as sticks are concerned, the damage was done in training when the elephant was a baby. Now, in the sanctuary, the sticks are used for guidance, just like a bit for a horse or a yoke for an ox. There is a big difference between pushing an elephant's head with a stick to guide it and whacking it with a stick or sticking a point into it. Moderation is the key. Extremism in either direction is not good.
